Every Sunrise Holds More Promise

Grade 2.5

Purchase Every Sunrise Holds More Promise on the product page

This composition will be a moving Grade 2.5 piece that contains a short aleatoric section, four small four note solos written for any instrument and contains an overall positive, uplifting message about how we care for each other. The four note solos reiterate the message “We care for you”.

The piece starts with an aleatoric section with no clear beat. This is symbolizing a loss of direction. As the tempo solidifies, harmony is blurred, giving way to an ascending melodic line that builds in intensity as it ascends in pitch. The piece continues with more statements of the four-note opening motive as both melody and harmony develop positively. This piece will challenge groups musically and give individuals chances to develop expressive qualities. Small solos are written for each instrument and can be chosen by the band director or band members. Band members can discover the emotional content contained within music.

Composer - Kirk Vogel

Kirk has a passion for working with small programs and mentoring new teachers. He writes for all levels of band and orchestra and enjoys working with groups to develop their musical skills and understand more about the process of composition. He has completed numerous commissions and has also composed for consortiums.

 Consortium Lead - Andre Wilkins

Master teacher, equally comfortable with band, jazz band or choir. Andre likes to find the best music for groups, is passionate about the teaching profession and is a strong advocate for small programs, working tirelessly to grow bands in the mountain towns of Colorado. He is an avid skier and river runner and I’m sure this consortium idea started on a ski lift shared by Kirk and Andre.
